Program Strategy

Almost everyone knows someone that is out of work. Most people are worried that they could be next. Many families were already living month-to-month – before things turned for the worse.

Today, people are struggling to find replacement jobs at a time when credit has dried up – but interest rates on existing lines of credit are peaking. Real estate values are dropping – making it impossible for many families to “unload” their dream home. Sadly, some families are losing everything – including their hope for the future.

The founders of Elephant Talk leveraged their experience in supply chain process, food bank systems, and nonprofit operations to find answers to several critical, relevant and timely questions.

1. Is it likely that things will get worse before they get better?
2. Is it likely that the sharply rising demand on food banks will continue?
3. Is it likely that food banks will be incapable of meeting the needs of our community?
4. Is it likely that the supply chain system that supports food banks will self-regulate to market conditions – thereby crippling supply?
5. If you said “Yes” to these questions – then what can be done to ensure that families in our community get the transitional support they need?
We did our research and the answers were alarming. We believe that the food bank system is “at risk” now and could face real challenges if unemployment and demand continues to rise.

This website is devoted to this problem and our work to augment the food bank system so Colorado families can focus on improving their situations and once again returning to the workforce.

We invite you to read through the different sections that evaluate the conditions, systems and circumstances that influence the looming problem – as well as our work to augment the availability of food such that the food bank system continues to meet the demand of hungry families.

Lastly, we can’t do this only our good looks and charm. It will take financial support from the community. Yes, I know that giving in this economy is a contradictory strategy but it’s necessary. Give what you can so we can provide for our community. Help us to deliver on a model of support that demonstrates our humanity – and provides a model that is replicated across the country.
